Artist's Description

The well-preserved fortified town of Brielle is famous for being the first place in the Netherlands to be liberated from Spanish rule in 1572. Looking down from the tower of Saint Catharine's Chruch we have a good view of the old town with its narrow streets and tiled rooftops. Some bycycles complete the Dutchness of the scene.

About Frans Blok

Frans Blok

I'm a photographer, designer and visual artist based in Rotterdam, The Netherlands. The Lowlands by the Northsea inspire me tremendously. The grandness of their landscapes, the intimacy of their towns. The canals and rivers, the harbours and boats, the windmills, churches and houses. The ever changing skies over polders and floodplains. For centuries, these lands have inspired painters like Van Ruisdael, Vermeer, Mesdag and Maris. I spend many a day exploring the Netherlands by foot or bike, capturing the beauty of the urban and rural scenery with my camera. This online gallery proudly shows some of my favorite images made on those expeditions. When I'm not out there making photographs, I'm either making artist impressions...
