This virtual relief creates the illusion of depth on a flat surface.

The image is made by building a 3D model and then materializing it and illuminating it in a visualization program.

By rotating and copying a relatively simple shape a fascinating pattern of straight and curved surfaces is created.

This work is done in chocolate (dark, milk and white); there are also variations in sand and chrome.

I'm a photographer, designer and visual artist based in Rotterdam, The Netherlands. The Lowlands by the Northsea inspire me tremendously.The grandness of their landscapes, the intimacy of their towns. The canals and rivers, the harbours and boats, the windmills, churches and houses. The ever changing skies over polders and floodplains. For centuries, these lands have inspired painters like Van Ruisdael, Vermeer, Mesdag and Maris. I spend many a day exploring the Netherlands by foot or bike, capturing the beauty of the urban and rural scenery with my camera.
