Artist's Description

One of the most photogenic places in Rotterdam, the Aelbrechtskolk in Delfshaven. Captured in the blue hour after sunset on an almost windless evening in November with a waxing Moon in a cloudless sky. With characteristic canal houses, historic barges and capricious chestnut trees. Further in the background the Piet Heyns Bridge, the Pilgrim's Father Church and windmill the Distilleerketel.

About Frans Blok

Frans Blok

I'm a photographer, designer and visual artist based in Rotterdam, The Netherlands. The Lowlands by the Northsea inspire me tremendously. The grandness of their landscapes, the intimacy of their towns. The canals and rivers, the harbours and boats, the windmills, churches and houses. The ever changing skies over polders and floodplains. For centuries, these lands have inspired painters like Van Ruisdael, Vermeer, Mesdag and Maris. I spend many a day exploring the Netherlands by foot or bike, capturing the beauty of the urban and rural scenery with my camera. This online gallery proudly shows some of my favorite images made on those expeditions. When I'm not out there making photographs, I'm either making artist impressions...
