Artist's Description
This is a version without text of the inverted world map that is available elsewhere in this webshop. No names of seas, oceans, continents and mountains, no meridians and latitudes.
Only the pure beauty of this fantasy world where land and water are swapped. Where continents become oceans and oceans become continents. Where all islands become lakes and all lakes become islands. With a complete reversal of the relief.
It is up to the viewer to discover this world and to come up with names and stories!
The color scheme of the map is inspired by the well-known Blue Marble maps of NASA, which are based on the actual image of the Earth seen from space.
About Frans Blok
I'm a photographer, designer and visual artist based in Rotterdam, The Netherlands. The Lowlands by the Northsea inspire me tremendously. The grandness of their landscapes, the intimacy of their towns. The canals and rivers, the harbours and boats, the windmills, churches and houses. The ever changing skies over polders and floodplains. For centuries, these lands have inspired painters like Van Ruisdael, Vermeer, Mesdag and Maris. I spend many a day exploring the Netherlands by foot or bike, capturing the beauty of the urban and rural scenery with my camera. This online gallery proudly shows some of my favorite images made on those expeditions. When I'm not out there making photographs, I'm either making artist impressions...
