The Old Canal in the city of Utrecht has a characteristic two level section, with wharfs and warehouses lining the quay below streetlevel. Many of these cellars have been converted into cafés and restaurants. Taken in early December, this evening scene, with Dom church towering in the backgrund, is illuminated by Christmas lights.
I'm a photographer, designer and visual artist based in Rotterdam, The Netherlands. The Lowlands by the Northsea inspire me tremendously.The grandness of their landscapes, the intimacy of their towns. The canals and rivers, the harbours and boats, the windmills, churches and houses. The ever changing skies over polders and floodplains. For centuries, these lands have inspired painters like Van Ruisdael, Vermeer, Mesdag and Maris. I spend many a day exploring the Netherlands by foot or bike, capturing the beauty of the urban and rural scenery with my camera.
