Veerhaven, or Ferry Harbour, used to be the arrival and dearture point of the ferries across the Nieuw Maas river between the city of Rotterdam and the village of Katendrecht. Today the watertaxis to Hotel New York depart from here. The harbour is currently in use as a mooring for pleasure boats and as home of historic vessels.On this cold winter morning the low sun, a thin layer of snowand the white wooden boathouse evoke an almost Scandinavian atmosphere.
I'm a photographer, designer and visual artist based in Rotterdam, The Netherlands. The Lowlands by the Northsea inspire me tremendously.The grandness of their landscapes, the intimacy of their towns. The canals and rivers, the harbours and boats, the windmills, churches and houses. The ever changing skies over polders and floodplains. For centuries, these lands have inspired painters like Van Ruisdael, Vermeer, Mesdag and Maris. I spend many a day exploring the Netherlands by foot or bike, capturing the beauty of the urban and rural scenery with my camera.
