Nieuwe Herengracht (the New Lord's Canal) was dug after the Herengracht proper, but nevertheless dates back a few centuries, to be more precise to the year 1658. The lighttrails that we see on this night image are caused by boats that make a cruise along the light artworks of the Amsterdam Light Festival.

I'm a photographer, designer and visual artist based in Rotterdam, The Netherlands. The Lowlands by the Northsea inspire me tremendously.The grandness of their landscapes, the intimacy of their towns. The canals and rivers, the harbours and boats, the windmills, churches and houses. The ever changing skies over polders and floodplains. For centuries, these lands have inspired painters like Van Ruisdael, Vermeer, Mesdag and Maris. I spend many a day exploring the Netherlands by foot or bike, capturing the beauty of the urban and rural scenery with my camera.
