This virtual relief creates the illusion of depth on a flat surface.

The image is made by building a 3D model and subsequently materializing and illuminating it in a visualization program.

By repeating a relatively simple shape, an intriguing pattern of interlocking surfaces appears.

This work was done in corten steel; there is also a version in brass and cardboard.
